Seeking an Assistant/Associate Medical Director or Medical Director to lead efforts within the Clinical BioOncology Organization to develop and implement diagnostics and biomarkers strategies and pipeline molecules targeting breast cancer. The position will report to the Associate Group Medical Director responsible for Clinical Technology Evaluation and Diagnostics in BioOncology.
Principal responsibilities will include
1. Lead a cross-functional team to continually refine and implement a strategy to continue to improve the targeting of Herceptin to appropriate patients.
2. Lead a cross-functional team to develop strategies and implement plans for the optimal incorporation of biomarkers into clinical development plans and clinical trials for investigational new drugs targeting breast cancer.
3. Lead a cross-functional team to develop and implement plans to increase our understanding of the molecular heterogeneity of breast cancer, to include external collaborations, internal research efforts and potentially sponsored trials where the primary motivation is a biomarker question.
4. Work closely and effectively with key internal groups (clinical scientists, molecular diagnostics scientists, research scientists, commercial and regulatory experts) and external groups (academic investigators, professional societies, government and commercial organizations).
5. Serve as an internal and external expert on diagnostics for Herceptin and Breast Cancer.
Qualifications are an MD (or non-US equivalent), board certified in oncology or oncology-related specialty. Strong scientific background (eg PhD) with track record of peer-reviewed publications.
Expertise and experience in research into the treatment of breast cancer and the use of biomarkers is highly desirable. Prior experience in drug development and/or experience in the assessment of novel technologies and diagnostics in clinical trials is preferred.
Must have excellent communication and leadership skills, and be able to manage through influence while operating in an uncertain, rapidly changing environment. Need to successfully establish peer relationships in a matrix organization. Possess ability to interact effectively with external investigators.
