SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
It is the responsibility of the Manager, Business Development to direct and coordinate the marketing and management of the Company's products and/or services by performing the following duties.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Generate new business leads. Utilize strong interpersonal skills when negotiating contracts and/or bids and building long-term relationships with potential external partners and/or customers.
2. Participate with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.
3. Call on prospective accounts, provide technical and administrative product information, coordinate presentations, and support proposal generation. Prepare client-specific presentations and other data to respond to client needs. Travel in the range of 30-40%.
4. Support management in determining service viability to include: Work with internal teams to translate client needs and expectations into reality; develop industry knowledge and maintain awareness of industry trends; perform other duties as assigned by management to meet business changes.
5. Function independently to influence the decision-making process of potential clients and develop strategies which anticipate client objections or ambivalence.
6. Ensure that sales targets are achieved by maintaining sales networking and client development activities.
7. Monitor competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, etc.
8. Provide current and historical records by maintaining records on potential customers and projects.
9. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
10. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate advertising, and trade promotion programs.
11. Assist the Director, Business Development in identifying market potential by identifying client requirements; defining market, competitors' share, and competitors' advantages and weaknesses; forecasting projected business; establishing targeted Company share.
12. Maintain professional and technical knowledge; establish personal networks; and participate in relative business professional societies.
13. Participate in self-development activities and training of others.
14. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.
15. Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
· BS/MS in Organic Chemistry. Ph.D. is a plus.
· A minimum of five years sales experience in pharmaceutical field.
· Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
· Proven problem solver and independent thinker.
· Business background, MBA, a plus.
Language/Communication Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
