We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will plan and lead various highly complex research projects focused on the engineering of therapeutic antibodies and development of novel protein engineering technologies. The Principle Scientist/Associate Director will function as an antibody engineering team leader and department representative for biomolecules at various stages of research and development.
The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the protein and antibody engineering field. He/she will be independent, creative and have a published record of research accomplishments in the various molecular and structural aspects of protein engineering and design. The candidate will make recommendations on technologies to pursue to further company objectives and will be expected to utilize a forward-looking perspective to contribute to “go/no go” decisions.
Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills are essential as is the ability to function with minimal supervision, including in ambiguous situations. Successful collaboration and interfacing in a cross-functional team environment will be expected. Must show demonstrated success in supervising and developing employees.
In the Associate Director role, must be able to demonstrate the ability to blend scientific knowledge and business acumen to make recommendations and decisions. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously so as to meet deadlines is a requirement. The successful candidate will be able to present and report data in internal/external meetings and publications and influence his/her peers in a constructive manner.
Position Requirements: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Immunology with 10-15 yr.’s of relevant work experience. Prior management experience as well as the ability to supervise the development of various antibody engineering strategies across multiple technology platforms are required. Industry experience will be strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have proven technical proficiency in most of the following areas: molecular biology (in particular site-directed mutagenesis/cloning/PCR, protein libraries design/construction/screening, directed evolution, high throughput screening); assay development; expression of recombinant proteins in various hosts; protein purification.
